Ingredients
For the Cake
1ΒΎ cups all-purpose flour
ΒΎ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
Β½ cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup hot espresso or freshly brewed strong coffee
For the Espresso Buttercream
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons espresso powder
2β3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
For the Ganache
1 cup dark chocolate, finely chopped
Β½ cup heavy cream
Method
- Prepare the Pans
Preheat your oven to 175Β°C (350Β°F). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake tins with parchment paper. - Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. - Add the Wet Ingredients
Crack in the eggs, then pour in the buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until the batter is smooth and combined. - Add the Espresso
Slowly stir in the hot espresso or coffee. The batter will be thin β this helps create a moist and soft cake. - Bake the Cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30β35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely. - Make the Buttercream
Beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and espresso powder, then pour in the milk or cream. Whip until light, fluffy, and smooth. - Assemble the Cake
Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of espresso buttercream on top. Add the second layer and frost the top and sides. - Prepare the Ganache
Heat the heavy cream until hot but not boiling. Pour it over the chopped dark chocolate and let it sit for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth and glossy. - Finish the Cake
Pour the ganache over the top, letting it drip naturally down the edges for a beautiful finish. - Decorate & Serve
Top with chocolate curls, truffles, or coffee beans for an elegant final touch.
This cake is rich, intense, and loaded with chocolate-coffee flavor β the perfect dessert for anyone who loves a bold, luxurious slice of cake! β¨
